According to Sci-Fi Wire, director Richard Kelly wrote on his
MySpace.com blog that he has wrapped production on THE BOX, his
upcoming film adaptation of Richard Matheson's short story. "I haven't
blogged in a long time because, well, ... I've been in Boston/Virginia
directing my third movie!" Kelly wrote. "And now I am back in L.A., and
we have officially wrapped production on The Box." The film stars
Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella. In the movie an
unhappily married couple (Diaz and Marsden) receive a box from a
mysterious stranger (Langella), who tells them that pushing a button on
the box will award them with a large monetary sum, and simultaneously,
someone the couple does not know will die.
"My editors have been working nonstop, and we are beginning to work
on the visual effects, signing a composer, etc.," Kelly said. "As soon as
Warner Brothers gives us a release date, I will let you know." Director
Richard Kelly wrote a script based on the 1970 short story "Button,
Button" by author Richard Matheson. So, basically, it's a remake of the
Twilight Zone episode, which you can check out for yourself here.
