events depicted in "House of 1000 Corpses," as the murderous Firefly family

Sheriff John Wydell hell-bent on avenging his brother's murder - looks to
track them down for one last horrifying confrontation.
Review:
I have to admit that the 70's were a great decade for horror films. Some
even consider the 70's to be the "golden age of horror". With such classics
like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, The Exorcist, Last House of
the Left, The Hills Have Eyes etc. All these films had such a strong impact on
the genre and even helped changed the way we looked at horror films. In the
year 2003 musical artist turned director Rob Zombie brought us a very
memorable horror film called House of 1000 Corpses. A film which not too
many enjoyed, according to both critics and box office scores. I have to
admit I wasn't very fond of the film myself the first time around, but after
giving it another try I found that the more I watched the film the more it
grew on me.
So its no surprise that the horror community were awaiting a sequel. Two
years after House, Rob Zombie brings us 'The Devils Rejects'. A film which
displays the further adventures of the Firefly Family (the family responsible
for the numerous amounts of unsolved murders). Sheriff John Wydell goes
after the Firefly family to avenge his brothers death, using a police squad to
shoot down the entire household. While some of the Firefly family escape,
police discover bizarre things within house and soon search for the remaining
members of the family as they run from the feds. But of course the horror
doesn't stop there as Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby shed more blood
while on their journey to safety.
First off I have to say that this movie isn't much of a sequel, but more of a
spin-off film. The Devils Rejects feels almost like a completely different movie.
The only major ties this movie has with the first film is that it has the same
murderous characters. Other than that the music, dialog, story and the
overall look of the film was very different from House of 1000 Corpses. Its a
fresh new start for those who were very upset with the first film. But if you
ask me I think Rob Zombie did a better job with this movie and I think it'll
please any horror fan. I thought the acting was really good, some of the
actors from the first film make a return here, along with some new familiar
faces and characters.
I thought the dialog in this film was very well written. Most of the characters
in the movie really depend on one-another and there is even some humor
thrown into the mix. The lines in the movie were really cool and the dialog
was really strong. The visual effects to the movie were really good as well. As
I mentioned before this movie is very different from House and this movie at
times doesn't even feel like a horror film. There are great gun fights and
believe it or not there is CGI used in the film. But its hardly noticeable so
thats not too much of a problem. The music in this movie was very different
as well, but overall I thought it fit well and gave this movie a whole different
tone and it helped make it feels like a 70's film.
What I liked the most about this movie was that it was very unpredictable.
There are moments in the film where you don't really know what is going to
happen next and Rob Zombie does a great job of bringing unexpected things
to surprise us. The film itself is very strong with all the violence and language.
This movie had to be cut many times just to get an R rating, but this
theatrical cut is very gritty and in your face. Not too much gore, but there is
blood and really brutal visuals that should please all you gore hounds. This
movie is a straight horror film, you'll find no cheap scares or thrills here. This
is a movie that horror fans will talk about for years. Overall I thought it was a
really good movie, but of course its not perfect.
The only thing that I didn't like was that most of the excitement was in the
first half of the movie, then as the film progressed it just seemed toned
down. But other than that I have no big complaints, I had a good time
watching this movie. I loved the cast, music, cinematography and the humor.
This is a straight in your face horror film which should only be viewed by a
mature audience. If you didn't enjoy the first movie then its not a big deal,
this movie is very different from House of 1000 Corpses and I definitely think
that everyone will enjoy it. If you're into films where the bad guys are shown
as the heroes, then you'll dig it for sure. If not, then you must be really picky
or you just don't like clowns.
