Story: A reporter witnesses a brutal murder, and becomes entangled in a
mystery involving a pair of Siamese twins who were separated at birth, one of
them forced to live under the eye of a watchful, controlling psychiatrist.

Review:

I just finished watching Douglas Buck's 2006 remake of Brian De Palma's
horror (I use the term loosely) mystery titled Sisters. Sisters tells the story
of Angelique who after meeting a young Doctor invites him back to her place.
They do have sex and the next morning the doctor is brutally murdered by
Angelique's twin sister Annabelle. With the help of the twin's doctor and
Angelique's ex-husband, the murder is covered up almost perfectly. But
young reporter Grace Collier (played by former IT girl of the '90s Chloe
Sevigny), witnessed the murder and immediately calls the police. Unfortunately
the police find no evidence and believes that the reporter is screwing with
them. Grace continues to investigate the matter and discover the truth
behind the cover-up, and the real murderer.

I had watched the original Brian De Palma film just a few weeks ago and I
quite honestly enjoyed the movie. The film worked with that like Alfred
Hitchcock's Psycho where you know who did it, you know how they got away
with it, now let's try to bring out the truth. Now it's not that I hate remakes,
I have enjoyed some and I do understand that for a lot of remakes its to
bring out a different idea from the original story, but with this film it really
didn't work out. I have no problem with Sevigny, I'm honestly not a big fan
of hers and this again is a movie that isn't going to make me a fan. Lou
Doillon, who plays Angelique/Annabell has (I'm sorry) just a dog face. Maybe
I'm being a bit harsh there but her acting wasn't anything to give a standing
ovation over. Quite honestly I wasn't impressed with the cast at all.

The film did try to keep in touch with the original but somehow lost its way as
it carried along. It tried to keep the dream like ending but decided to
somehow try and make it unpredictable. You can really think up several
different endings for this kind of movie. The ending they picked is not my
favorite and it's unrealistic, but I guess thats where suspension of disbelief
comes in. The other problem this movie had was it really lacked the air of
mystery. The film was a short hour and 30 minutes, but they pretty much
stuff in the doctor's murder and hints of past sexual abuse in the first hour
and the last half consistences of investigation and a "Shock" ending. I don't
feel disappointed because I wasn't expecting anything from it but I'm not
pleased with this movie. This is definitly a film where I would pick the original
any day of the week.
